Emmanuel’s Gift Academy – Hard Hat Zone
The current phase of Emmanuel's Gift Academy, is a natural progression from the precursor programs, and in keeping with the big dreams of Emmanuel, that keep coming true. It involves raising 1 million dollars to build, train staff, and operate an Academy that includes a school, adaptive therapy center and sports training facility for youth with physical disabilities, as well as youth with a variety of socio-economic levels, challenges and nationalities.
Your generous donation will bring dreams to fruition! (see donate page)
The school will serve as a hub for the activities, occupational training, and advocacy for youths and adults. Abled-body and international students will also be included, breaking down seperation, stimatization and discrimination. Partnership with innovators in research, technology, therapeutic treatments, medical solutions, and environmental policy are guided a larger impact. A goal is hire and train a strong percentage of laborers, designers, teachers, furniture builders, coaches, etc. who have disabilities.
The expectation is that this Academy will be a model for the facilities, programatic offerings, and education that should be available with full inclusion and access. Emmanuel's Dream has already evoked interest from counterparts in Nigeria, the Congo and South Africa, a leader in promoting rights of people of disabilities in Africa.
THE PLAN: one to three years depending on speed of fundraising.
The first building phase is two four-classrom pods for grades K-6 made of local materials with all accessible and fun paths, garden, playground, medium sized fields, hardtop sports area, and eating area. A two room adaptive therapy center will provide physical therapy, rehabilitation therapy, and occupational therapy for students and community members.
Upon completion of Phase 1 and 2: The campus will serve 350 students include 12 academic classrooms plus art, music, science, technology, and library facilities. One regulation sized soccer field (2 acres) smaller athletic practice fields and paved courts, the completion of the adaptive therapy center will include fitness/therapeutic gym facility. A multipurpose/community open structure, kitchen, and food growing garden are some of the important aspects along with storage shed/repair workshop for wheelchairs, mobility devices, furniture and equipment.
Green building, sanitation, renewable energy, and sound environmental practices are essential elements. Eve Reynolds, owner of Arcolution, a certified green builder, licensed architect, internationally experienced and certified is leading the design and construction planning of the Academy. Passive solar, and earth-kind materials are in the design.
THE BIG DREAM
Although not necessities, these aspects will complete the fuctionality of the Academy and make it World Class. To build a 25 yard therapeutic swimming pool, a regulation basketball/ volleyball/tennis court space in an indoor gym, an innovation workshop, and frequent trainings by professionals in all fields.
Phase 3 and 4 focus on building and operating High School Academy and fuller Sports Facility. This will be complimented with a Boarding Facility and partnering with Building for Generations. Org to build a satellite school for students with other special needs. In the pipeline is an Occupational Program center, and several social businesses such as bio-diesel production, poultry farm, mobility assistance equipment manufacturing that will provide income for the school and job possibilities for high school students.
Making these dreams come true will open up dreams for multitudes, not just at the Academies we build, but from the actualization of international law, the modeling for other countries, and the wide spread awareness that will change attitudes and lives.
